FalconFour’s Ultimate Boot CD/USB 4.6

March 31, 2013

Hola amigos. I don’t speak Spanish, but, you know, trying to stay hip. Like actually releasing a new version, that sounds like an awesome idea, doesn’t it? Hell, v4.5 had so many holes that’ve been fixed in v4.6, it made 4.5 look like Swiss cheese. And I’m sure the Swiss have even used this thing. It’s been all the way around the internet and back – in fact, v4.6 was created on a laptop I bought from a guy on eBay (just shopping around) that uses my disc as well! I was amazed. This thing has seen some mileage.

FalconFour's Ultimate Boot CD v4.6

In this boot CD are the most popular and useful tools anyone would ever need. The best of the free software, the best of the commercial software, and it all fits on one CD-R that’s readable by any computer worth booting on. Not everything can read a DVD, and USB booting is hit and miss at best.

Meanwhile, since the last release in 2011, more has changed. I wrote off the dry, stale corporate IT world of wastefulness and over-powered, under-utilized systems and unnecessary, poorly planned “cloud” services. Currently unemployed (at least, as of this release!), I found some time to put some major polish on MiniXP and get everything working well. Still would love to work in computer repair. Anyone? I’ll even move. Anything? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

This disc, an even more minor single-point revision, is actually a huge MiniXP update. Other tools have been updated, like Memtest86+, which has been replaced with the more frequently updated Memtest86, with a smarter loading mechanism. Tons of updates in MiniXP. AHCI support, for one thing. Better driver support for network and wireless drivers, faster (and more reliable) startup, better error reporting/catching, better graphics, better compatibility with more tools and software, and… Flash support in the latest Portable Firefox! Yes, you can watch YouTube from MiniXP now. And access TeamViewer/LogMeIn which uses Flash. LOTS of work has been put into polishing the startup routine and compatibility.f4ubcd-46-menu

Plenty of features from v4.5: Virtual Floppy enables you to mount images from a USB stick to be used in a boot selection like MiniXP (for F6 SATA/RAID drivers) or FreeDOS (Dell option). VFD with file copy allows you to make a <1mb RAR file accessible to DR-DOS or Hiren’s DOS in a virtual floppy. Wireless drivers in MiniXP along with improved Ethernet and storage support. Mini Linux provided by RIP Linux. Bootable partition and imaging utilities provided by Acronis True Image and EASEUS Partition Manager. Improved Memtest86+ with failsafe mode to resolve startup hangs. Kon-Boot 1.1 is really v1.1 now, with support for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. Tons of new utilities in MiniXP with new launchers to provide easier access. ERD 5.0 is integrated with MiniXP for offline system restore and service/driver management, and Microsoft DaRT 6.5 (x86 and x64) are added to support Windows Vista and 7. Antivirus scanning with real-time updates is provided by DaRT 6.5’s Standalone System Sweeper, and allows you to load definitions to a USB stick for live updating.

This ain’t yo mama’s BartPE compilation.

Once you dive into this disc, you’ll never need another boot CD.

Based on F4UBCD v4.5 with MiniXP from Hiren’s 15.2, heavily modified.

  • MiniXP gutted and rebuilt with new, flexible on-disc scripting, for easy mods.
  • Active File Recovery 7.5.1

In this update

4.6, Apr-1-13: Many modifications to MiniXP. AHCI/RAID support (not quite universal yet due to architecture). Firefox update with Flash support. Memtest86 instead of Memtest86+. Streamlined boot menu configuration. Made USB setup easier with BootICE. ImageX front and center on the desktop now, as well as some additional new icons. Vastly improved MiniXP startup process. 1. Is anyone using F4UBCD with Easy2Boot? I’m able to boot into the MiniXP environment, but all of the utilities and tools are missing – I only have options for disk management, show drives, etc.

    • Look in the \_ISO\docs\Sample mnu files folder. There are special instructions for F4.
      Also, read the blog http://rmprepusb.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/add-multiple-hirens-isos-to-easy2boot.html

      • Hi,I run it on my notebook without Easy2Boot (just normal as it is on a bootcd) and have the same problem, Any Help? The BootCD is working fine on another notebook. Cheers and thank you.

    • Use .isowinvh extension and place in usual “Mainmenu” folder.
      Boots perfectly!

  2. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where’s the guide to boot it from flashdrive?

    • Should be a “USB Instructions.txt” file in the torrent. Failing that, here’s the contents of that file:
The process for making this into a bootable USB stick is much easier than in v4.5.

Here’s the premise: there are two types of boot sectors that make something bootable:
      – An MBR (master boot record) is in the very first sector of the drive. Usually it just says “Boot the active partition’s PBR”. It contains a list of partitions, and points to the correct PBR to boot.
      – A PBR (partition boot record) is at the very start of the *partition* (not the disk) and contains the code that boots the system from that partition.

A Flash drive (or other removable drive, e.g. an SD card) only has a PBR since it only contains one partition. To create an MBR (unnecessary), you would need to reformat the drive. You can get away with only using a PBR. Some Flash drives may be using an MBR as well – so we just need to check that.

      Here’s how you do it:

      (1) Use any flash drive. — YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REFORMAT IT. — NTFS or FAT32 will both work. FAT32 formatted with 16kb sectors is best for most Flash drives.
      (2) Extract the files from the ISO (do NOT copy the ISO itself) to your USB drive.
      — (You should have F4UBCD, HBCD, BOOT, etc. folders in the USB drive root.
      (3) On the USB drive, browse to HBCD\WinTools and run BootICE.cmd.
      (4) In BootICE, SELECT YOUR FLASH DRIVE (important!) and do the following:
      — Click “Process MBR”. If it indicates “Unknown”, skip this part. Otherwise, verify that it’s set to “Windows NT 5.x/6.x MBR”. Install it if needed. You can’t really mess this up.
      — Click “Process PBR”. It will usually say “Unknown” here, but if it says NTLDR or BOOTMGR, it’s been formatted by Windows to run the Windows boot loader. We need to change this to GRUB4DOS. Select GRUB4DOS and click “Install/Config”. Use the default options.
      — Click “Parts Manage”. If any partitions are shown here, you’ve got an MBR (that’s OK). Select the partition and make sure it’s Active – if it is, “Activate” will be greyed out. Click it if needed, and hit Close.

You’re done! You’ve now got a bootable F4UBCD Flash drive. No external tools needed! 🙂

      • Thank you. 🙂

  3. Have you ever considered publishing an ebook or guest authoring on other blogs?
I have a blog based upon on the same subjects you discuss and would really like
to have you share some stories/information. I know my viewers would appreciate your work.

  6. What about checksums for the v4.61 direct download?

  7. Ahhh, I got it to work! I was having problems just getting this to install on my USB Stick but I got it worked out. I have not got to test everything yet because it was like 3AM when I finally got it working, I was able to boot up in it thats as far as I got! So far Nice Job! Today is a new day, cover me I am going in:)

    • I cannot get DaRT 6.5 to load. What can I do to fix this?

  8. I would also include GPU-Z; a year or 2 ago I came upon a desktop which had bad graphics performance (suddenly) and I looked for software problems (viruses & others). After a while I used CPU-Z to look into the system’s hardware but found no problem. It went on and on till I started up the latest GPU-Z and found that of the original RAM on the graphics card 3/4 was defective. I couldn’t believe that that card even worked anymore. Lesson: CPU-Z doesn’t check that RAM, GPU-Z checks it out and reports the correct amount of ‘working’ RAM on your graphics card(s)!

  9. Hi FalconFour! Ilove your stuff, but what’s going on? No new release since 2013, and what happened to Hiren? Pankaj? Proteus? They haven’t done anything since 2012. I hope to see more from you guys soon. Your Boot CD’s are a Godsend in the IT world. Thanks!

  10. I’m not able to use the current version of the boot cd with Rufus. It keeps telling me it’s an unsupported ISO.

  11. Tried to DL the Torrent but the link is broken. Sorry no saving the planet’s bandwidth tonight 😦

  12. 😦 Dropbox says your account sees too much action and I can’t get to the torrent download. Any alternative?

  13. Hi All,

the Download links are not working:
    A) Dropbox torrent Fails,
    B) Patch Fails,

Could you please update the Links in a way we can trust the Download?

Thanks a lot for the GREAT WORK,

  15. This CD has saved my sorry hide twice in the last month. Just wanted to say “Thanks.”

  16. Ok. Having a huge problem here. I’m trying to boot into Falcon Four boot cd (which works on other pc’s) but for some reason on my Laptop I’m getting an error message when starting up minixp
which says lsass.exe “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). click OK to terminate the application”

and then it just shuts off the laptop without even clicking on “ok”
    What issue is this?
could this be from using ccleaner and if so How do I fix it so that that falcon boot cd will work?

  17. thank You for great tool. i looking for some remote desktop app and ftp server app. i tried teamviewer by it doenst work.

  18. Teamviewer is the pups nutts, in what way isn’t it working ?

  19. Awesome tool!, I use 4.5 a lot!, please provide torrent download link or magnet, so we can download it faster, and it won’t cost you a thing, actual torrent link does not work (because dropcrap are a bunch of assh@les!! )
I was wondering, did you include some tool to clone windows 8?, since acronis and ghost doesn’t seems to work with windows 8, there is a tool called AOMEI backupper that can generate a bootdisk, perhaps you can include it in the next version?, another thing is that newer (crapper) notebooks does not work with the live windows in your distro,it does not detect any hard drives, usb or ahci, even putting the controller into compatibility mode, does not detect it either 😦
    thank you!

  20. i know the post it 2+ years old, but i have a “home phone” VOIP, GV/Obi100, total cost $28-5+yrs ago, setup time, 5 mins.
and the anwser to your qeustion is its totally possible, IF every person, every carrier, all sip trunks, and pbx systems had compatable software/systems, then if they did, it would work with other countries.
plus a “lossless” codec might be 44.1, or hell 96khz but when everyone is wandering around on cell phones, there is massive packet loss so if it records 96,000 times a second, but drops 30,000. is it still lossless? its above 44. then cordless phones. asnd you have cell companies struggeling to provide enough data as it is. Free open souce codecs are large files. if att so spends 100 million to devolope their own codec that cuts the data size by 50% they will use it, and charge others to do it too, and your bill wiil go up too.
but really the bottom line is why do you need CD or better quality calls? do you need an audiophile phone with special pre amp/amp/speakers too? who are you talking to that its worth any of this trouble?
the anwser your looking for IS NOT in corparations or goverment, but in the people, mesh networks so you can contol everything, and never pay a cent.
next time you buy a router/cell, anything connected get something mesh network compatable, usuallt there is no price difference, the only diffrence is # of options, but that the sacrifice we all have to make for 1-2 yrs until its standard on everything.
fuck paying companies to communicate or access information.
thats our right, lets take it back!

    • … wut? I think you replied to the wrong article… but even if you meant to post on https://falconfour.wordpress.com/2013/02/28/pstn-digital-network-its-time-to-upgrade-past-8khz/ , it’s still a bit off. With every smartphone having absurdly fast data access, why is it somehow a stretch of the imagination that something like Skype could work out on the data network, reliably, with the systems automatically picking the highest available quality? Hell, even just putting it into the phone system at high quality and letting the network water down the quality where it’s needed. When every phone just figures “oh, 8KHz is good enough at the endpoint”, all you get is shit all across the board.

  21. Hi: I downloaded FalconFour’s Ultimate Boot CD v4.61 and followed the directions to create a bootable USB stick which seemed to be successful. I then tried to use it to attempt to get my old crashed HP computer with Windows VISTA up and running. The USB stick is recognized in the Boot Menu; but when I try to boot with it, all that happens is I get a message “No GRLDR”. Any suggestions?

    • Test that the stick is bootable using RMPrepUSB – QEMU (F11) – this will emulate booting from the stick (set 500MB of Memory and no virtual hard disk = 0). If it boots in QEMU then your stick is bootable and the problem lies with the BIOS settings on the HP. If it does not boot under QEMU then make sure the \grldr file is present (if not, use the RMPrepUSB – Install grub4dos button).

  22. Hey guys, you’re doing an AWESOME work with this disc.
But just a question from a user who sometimes has to deal with OLD machines with low RAM (1024 MB)

MiniXP: I can’t seem to set a swap file here, as a reboot is inevitable and MiniXP won’t keep settings as a full-blown Windows would.
So my Firefox (when browsing the Net while doing some time-consuming recovery) will constantly crash because of 0 free RAM available.
Is it really so that one can do nothing about it except adding a second RAM stick?

  23. […] Ultimate Boot CD v4.61 Patch Requires FalconFour’s Ultimate Boot CD v4.6 as a source for the distribution ISO. You can’t use […]

  24. Accutane cost smkhok Accutane cost accunewsus.com

  25. Can i add sata/raid/ahci drivers into mini xp to load while booting? because sometimes i get iastor7.sys blue screen and i have to go into bios and revert the disk to ATA from ahci in order too boot.
But now days some motherboards dont have the option to revert to ATA legacy.
